TurmaForte™ is a unique, whole concentrated form of Turmeric (Curcuma longa) rhizome, designed to focus on three key and therapeutically important elements from the original Turmeric plant. Turmeric rhizome has been used as a culinary spice in Asian and Indian cuisine, primarily for its flavouring and natural colourant properties. The traditional preparation involves boiling of the fresh or dried rhizome and serving in popular dishes including curries and other savoury dishes. It is also often found in sweets, where it can be utilised for its rich golden-yellow colour.
Medicinal use dates back 4,000 years in Ayurvedic (Indian Traditional) medicine, whilst a growing body of modern scientific evidence exists for the use as Turmeric as a natural remedy for inflammatory, digestive and hepatic disorders.
Solvent fraction – Curcuminoids
Many commercially available preparations of Turmeric focus only on curcuminoids. Through industrial enrichment processes, the final ingredient generally contains three curcuminoids (curcumin, desmethoxycurcumin and bisdesmethoxycurcumin, in descending order), comprising 95% of the total composition. This selective enrichment process results in the discarding of other therapeutically important components. The TurmaForte™ production process addresses this through the inclusion of these important curcuminoids along with two other equally important chemical groups also present in the raw Turmeric rhizome.
Water-soluble fraction – Concentrated Turmerosaccharides
Using only water as the extraction solvent to capture and concentrate this very interesting fraction of Turmeric, we are able to preserve both the polar and non-polar chemistry from the foundation plant material within the final TurmaForte™ extract. Water extraction is consistent with the traditional method of preparation, which involves boiling the dried rhizome in water and consuming the broth.
This water-soluble fraction has been clinically trialed for its role in relieving joint pain and restoring joint mobility. Published human studies demonstrate the clinical relevance of the water-soluble fraction as complementary to the already widely accepted curcuminoid components. Statistically significant relief from joint pain was observed in just 21 days. Efficacy was achieved with a twice-daily dose of 500mg of this fraction alone.
Characterisation of the active turmerosaccharides is ongoing, though early research points to their composition as being predominantly Ukonans – monosaccharides comprised of L- arabinose, D-xylose, D-galactose, D-glucose, L-rhamnose and D-galacturonic acid with proportions varying between Ukonans A through D. The term Ukonan is derived from the word ‘Ukon’, which is the Japanese name for Turmeric.
Oil fraction – Turmeric Essential Oils
The final components of TurmaForte™ are volatile oils which occur naturally in the Turmeric rhizome. These biologically important volatile oils consist predominantly of turmerones (approximately 40% in the concentrated oil), the major constituent of which is ar-turmerone.
The Turmeric Essential Oils have themselves demonstrated anti-inflammatory activity and are often overlooked in the singular pursuit of the popular curcuminoids fraction. By steam distillation of the oil from the rhizome prior to the respective solvent and water extraction stages described above, followed by concentration and finally reintroduction to the final extract, TurmaForte™ is the complete Turmeric package as Mother Nature intended in a powerful, concentrated form.

Restore Potassium: Sodium Imbalance, with TurmaForteTM
The water-soluble component of the Turmeric rhizome is also high in Potassium and low in Sodium (approx. 10% and <1% respectively in TurmaForte™). This can help to restore dietary imbalances often associated with the Western diet and which can lead to hypertension and cardiovascular disease. Hypertension is a recognised co-morbidity with osteoarthritis due to factors such as overweight or obesity, stress and the use of medications where hypertension is a known side-effect (ie; NSAIDs). In addition, curcumin (the dominant curcuminoid in the solvent fraction of TurmaForte™) has been shown to influence sodium/ potassium pumps, affecting the balance of cellular potassium retention and sodium excretion. This further validates the symbiotic value of the various Turmeric fractions within TurmaForte™. TurmaForte™ acts as an effective agent in relieving joint-pain without unwanted cardiovascular side effects commonly associated with pain relief medications.

TurmaForte™ Directions for use and dosage
TurmaForte™ can be taken twice daily at a dose of 579mg (conventional grade) or 589mg (certified organic grade). At these doses, TurmaForte™ provides 75mg of curcuminoids along with the clinically proven dose of the water-soluble component, plus Turmeric Essential Oils.
Manufacturing Friendly
TurmaForte™ is comprised predominantly of the neutral-brown coloured water-soluble fraction. Its use in manufacturing greatly reduces equipment and facility staining commonly associated with the use of the bright golden-yellow curcuminoids fraction alone.
